it is undeniable that human are given the ability to memorize things throughout life. and god knows best, he gave us the brain so that we are able to capture anything we need to remember. unlike computer's memory, memories cannot be deleted as conveniently as we hit the 'delete' button on our keyboard, nor right click and selecting delete could do the job for us. some things that has been stored into our long-term memory, unfortunately maybe, is meant to be in our brain for many years to come. with or without our consent, the memory will be there to stay, perhaps until the day we die.
while a lot of us has many memories they wish to erase, i feel the urgency to embrace these thoughts that we are able to remember. imagine walking into the examination hall for a very important test, without any memories of what you have learnt for the whole semester? frustrating isn't it? watch how an amateur model in ANTM season 4 (i think), who lost her short term memories who could not deliver a very short speech she memorized beforehand for an advertisement? well we all feel sorry for her as she could not continue her dream career just because she forgets too easily. and how many times have i yell in the house, not remembering where have i last placed my mug. it is too excruciating not to able to remember, no?
memories gives people strength and confidence, i would say.
but how long do we hold on to memories? to what extent do we repeat ourselves to the memories? how much pride do we savour from memories? i have loads of questions unanswered. will write about it later. =p
ok smbg
memories also discourages you from doing something you had always wanted to do. why? because just because u see one bad thing happens as a consequence of something, u r afraid to go ahead and try to do the same thing. ok here's the picture. as a child, u have been exposed to how unhappy your home is like. u grow up with loads of things u wish u did not see. it sometimes makes people over generalize. the person might ended up scared of getting married, even though she have found the perfect guy. because she was afraid that the same thing is going to happen. kan? i mean, if she has no memories of how good a family life could be, she would be scared to put the misery on her own self, and the future family members, right? over exposure to failures would weaken her determination.
memories could actually brighten up people's days too. when reality alters and the presence of something or someone we love so dearly is no longer available, all you have left is the memories left behind. i know this feeling. haha. u would do everything to refresh the thoughts of that particular something in ur head. you would walk by the places where you used to spend times together, sniff the perfume of the person again and again, eat the food you both love and so on. in my case, i kept everything where his DNA is tracable (or not =p). so in times when you are feeling down because something or someone who used to be there for u is not around anymore, u hold on to the memories, and they wouldn't fail to perk u up, even just for one bit.
but for how long? is it okay to hold on to the memories forever? is it really okay to try and keep those memories to the extent that ur world is no longer running, but to stay static and unmoving? to collect all those pieces of memories until ur place is crowded with mineral water bottles, papers, and many other stuffs, and causing ur inbox not to have enough space to receive anymore new messages because u refuse to delete the msgs which contains those memories?
or is it time for us to start deleting those old sms's so that there's room for more memories to come?
or start chucking away those countless of water bottles and start filling the spaces with colourful decorations?
or maybe update ur wardrobe and start making some memories for others to remember?
im disorganized dah. my thought are in mess. but do u feel me?;p
