잔소리하는선생님
...or the nagging teacher.
Deep down inside, I do realize my potential as a serial nagger. Yes I nag in the morning, in the evening and at night. i especially nag when i see a sales assistant without a smile on her face, i nag about how youngster do not use formality when speaking to an elder, i nag when i see men not budging from their seat upon arrival of a heavily pregnant lady in the LRT. i basically nag.
...but don't i hate it when people nag at me. Seriously benci when i hear the same point being repeated 15 times for 15 minutes. I even vowed not to nag to my students when they make mistakes.
I nagged at my students. sort of.
Just now my Form 1 class had just returned from a library course in the Main Hall. The people from the National Library had came and taught them god knows what because I wasn't there. To start off, there are teachers who told us that the course is going to be on this morning and might take the whole day. I was supposed to be observed at my 105 class. I called my supervisor late and he was already on his way and he sounded a bit marah la because i informed him late, but i couldn't do anything pun. baru tahu myself. so yeah.
Tapi anyways. The form one students. They were back in time for English but boy am I GLAD Sir Razak a.k.a the supervisor is not here today. They were acting super lemau and super sayur today. I understand they
had a longggg day at the hall. they kept dozing off and i didn't really know what to do cuz i've had my lesson planned and i wasn't expecting them to be THAT lemau. sayur gila everyone.
and you know how sayur is infectious. oh btw for those who might be confused. sayur is the term i use for people yang lemau lembik xaktif and penat mcm xcukup vitamin.
so sayur is infectious. and i did reading today. which is boring factor number one. note to self- avoid reading at all costs in evening. if i have to do reading pun, make sure they need to get up or work in groups. jigsaw reading or sth.
and sayur is seriously infectious. as the time goes by i could feel myself getting more like them. and my sanity was flowing out slowly. i kept sending my students to the toilet to wash their faces and even offered to make a trip to the toilet together. tapi only a few took up the offer. the rest were happy being sleepy as they were. i was a bit mati kutu la tapi i just walk around the class, ask the sleepy looking ones to answer and stuff.
as i was telling them something about going to wash their face...(kot) student perempuan ini tidur. one second i glanced at her she was awake, the next second i glanced at her she was sleeping. so without thinking i closed my book gently and said in an admiring voice
"owwww look at Ezzy's (bukan nama sebenar) sleeping face. She looks so calm and so beautiful. Guys, look at her sleeping face she's adorable. If i have a daughter i want her to look like Ezzy"
and she woke up to 29 pairs of eyes looking at her and she smiled. i smiled too, and waved good morning.
"Ezzy if i could bring a bed here i would ask you to sleep in front of the class so we could look at your beautiful sleeping face the whole time"
the girl next to her immediately straightened up and slapped her own eyes. the girl at the back slapped her own face. the boy sleeping at my right woke up because his friend shook his shoulder pretty hard. as for me, well. i'm happy ;p
and then i urged them to finish earlier so we could play a game. so a game we played. told them to move into groups and they were unmoving. marah betul. so i asked them what do they want and they say they wanted a game. told them to move again, this time gave me excuses for not moving and i went a bit stricter and said 'i want you to move to your friends so you can sit down together as a group' and lepas kena countdown baru nak lift their asses up. and without thinking again,
"do you know pokemon? you guys are like slowpokes. i'm seeing a bunch of slowpokes moving"
whoops.
and they sped up. frustrated with the speed of lightning i went again
"macam reincarnation of tortoise. are you finally in your groups? can we start now?"
WHY MY MULUT IS LIKE THATTTTT
so the game started. i should've made jigsaw reading today. oh well.
but the game went well. they participated more in the game than the lesson so yeah.
kesimpulan.
tell me if i kuat nagging?
p/s: there's this smarty pants in my form 1 class who went 'I don't watch local shows so i don't know The kampung boy'. instead of tembaking him right away i said patiently 'this is why Lat is our county's pride. his work has been recognized internationally and was already published in a lot of other languages such as French, Portuguese, English...". see. i am patient

if i blog again this week, chances are its school related
1st of all, i will have to thank god for giving me making my process of being a full time teacher fun and smooth. things have been extra smooth that i could not believe it. i hear a lot of people (and occasionally read) that most of my mates are not taking things too well lately. according to most, being a teacher is tiring. and so far its been fun for me. of course there's always some challenge to it. i try to be positive about problems. most of the time, i don't even have to try hard.
second. yes. this is school related again. i am going to judge an inter class debate competition. of course all my knowledge of it is buried to the deepest pit of my brain. i could safely say that i am going to have quite a tough time judging, but i am also thankful that this school was willing to accept me. so here i am, trying to learn to evaluate debates. from possibly the most talented people. i feel blessed ;p
oh. this is personal.
why la canteen u tutup awal gila i nak my iced cuppacino dammit!!!!!!!!
dahla semalam dah frust for milk tea with pearl. you see, i haven't touched bubble tea with pearls for a looong time so yesterday when my friends went out to MV i asked them to get me those. large ones pulak tu. oh how much i miss biting those precious pearls. so chewy and so sweet. they taste so right. pastu x ada. how annoying is that? very.
and today i wanted to have iced cuppa from the canteen. yeah its only an instant cuppa but it still taste so similar to starbucks'. so because my class finishes at 230 and i have that debate meeting at 330 i decided to go back and pray first, then go to the canteen. turns out 320 when i went to the canteen it was already closed. punah pelamin impianku seriously =(
personal again.
i miss Japan. hukhuk.

the difference between Miss Ashikin and Shikin
there is a lot of difference when i compare myself being with my friends, the boyfriend and in school. with my friends, i am usually more carefree and gedik. that is because my friends wouldn't judge me for being crazy. well probably they do. but i don't have to worry about being superior or being outsmarted. when i am with the boyfriend, i am ten times more gedik. that's just my own way of being affectionate.
with the people in school, its a lot different story.
with other teachers, i am usually extra polite. i have a lot of respect for them since they have tons more experience teaching and i am only starting. i am usually humbled when i see them. i admit there are some unfortunately who are not up to my expectations, but i do realize that even they are teachers to me, in the sense that they are teaching me what not to do.
with the school staff, i am extra nice. i put on my menantu kesayangan face and talk sweet. people who knew me might think that i was being pretentious. i wasn't, really. i was just being nice ;p
with the students...ehem
so far i have been strict when i need to be strict. i've been direct because i think i need to make myself clear. but i do remind myself to inject fun in the class cuz i don't want an adolf hitler style. i can't say much about the effectiveness yet cuz it is only my first week teaching. my form 2 class is an extremely well behaved group of kiddos and i thank god for giving me that. i've been consulting a few people who could still remember what it is like to be in their shoes so i know how to react and to understand them a bit more.
i am nervous about the outcome of my prac. of course, i wish for the best. every night before i go to sleep i pray to god so tomorrow my lesson will be smooth and pray that He guides me. because i get set 1 kids, i pray hard to be able to improve their English. my biggest fear right now is that i am ineffective that their grades might go down and i will bring so much trouble for the next teacher to fix it. i try to work it with my students though, by constantly reminding them that its really okay to saythey don't understand me, if they need me to slow down or explain something again. i even tell them to knock on my door after school if they need my help. oh yeah
fyi, i live in the school compound now. in the female warden room in the girls' hostel. it should be easier for me to continue watcing their development kan. ;p
ada banyak funny incidents sebenarnya dalam kelas but i kinda forget things right now. nanti la update balik. hehe. later ta ta

I am Miss Ashikin
cuma bukan sekolah rendah punya cikgu
So only on Monday we'll be given the information about what class we're teaching and related stuff. We managed to get an accomodation in the school compound so one less problem now. I'll still keep the room in IPBA but i will only be here on what? Weekends? Yep yep. We were glad to be closer to school. takdelah susah sangat nanti kan nak commute from school to ipba everyday. I cant imagine what time in the morning we would have to get up and ready if we stay approx one hour from school. Phew
Oh. And. One more thing. I know that teachers are supposed to show authority, but there is a line between being authoritative and being rude. I understand that as a figure, we have to show students that we are in charge. But being in charge does not equal being rude. Being the teacher does not give you the licence to shout at people, to not sit straight, to not act professionally or act like you know it all. Most importantly, it does not give you the right to talk down to others. Respect people la kalau nak orang lain respect kau balik, susah ke?
Tapi to those who might worry i might start a war ke apa, don't worry I won't. Its not worth the trouble. I'll just try to be nice, get along with people and when i say no, i will make sure i am being as polite as possible.

i ramble
todays presentation.
woke up early (actually had to wadge a war with myself and jumped off the bed to get up)
and put on make up (ceh, foundation dgn mascara je)
it was colder than i thought (and its supposed to be spring, the wind was blowing like noone's business)
anita woke up late (and we were crossing fingers tha t she'll come running with her pj's) but made it there
we were the 2nd to go
jackie asked ashikin stuffs about her point and her groupmembers helped whispering some stuff from the back, huh!
ini la, time present my point nervous semacam, pastu bila jackie tanya seronok ye bercakap macam x igt dunia. adeyh. sharmyn accused me of rambling. no lah. i know what i wanted to say. but yeah i have the tendency to ramble. maybe i did ramble hahaha
and allowance came in, buat budget dan kira2 and i'll be pokai again after paying so many stuff. like rumah baru and current accomodation. isk. haven't even told my parent about my plan of moving out of huia. will do. i was excited telling them about the christchurch and wellington trip. for some reason it makes me all giddy thinking about travelling somewhere in NZ.
i might consider working during summer. am considering. banyak free time, nak buat apa? nak jalan2 pun pakai duit, bang.
and i still love waking up in the morning looking at the balloons XDDD

automatisch
currently drowning in uni work, and is on the verge of going coo-coo in seconds.
and i kinda hate selfish people. hard to say that considering i have the tendency to be pretty selfish myself. its just that, sometime you really have to understand that what you do affect people's sanity, you know?
and i hate the irony of things. like still not quitting smoking when someone dear to you passed away from the friggin cancer. you might have been the cause of her death for gods sake. there's really no point in writing a book about how brave she was for fighting it IF it does nothing to you really
(well as if i'm the one to speak kan. being addicted to coffee myself. but hey at least me drinking hundred cups of coffee every day does not effect the person sitting next to me)
and why am i being so snappy again? oh for being on the verge of going crazy in the matter of seconds.
well i am trying to find a free time to check about Japan. the flight ticket, visa required, stuffs for visiting. bet it would be pretty expensive but yeah, kalau ada offer jetstar buat sila bagitahu. i am willing to hutang with my credit card now. haha. i see lights of freedom coming my way this weekend tapi tula. i'll sabar for the time being with this painful cramp on my shoulders (n not forgetting the bruise for hitting the car door so hard this evening. haha
and...remember the cheque i received as my pay for tutoring the kid? oh maybe i didnt even tell the story about the kid. so Kaleb's graph was a scallop, means his reading performance dropped and his end result was the same then he first started. means his performance dropped real bad in the middle before he started picking himself up again (or me being stricter). and yeah terok. so i was reaaaally down, and decided not to cash the money (despite my brokeness thank you very much) because it would be against my ethics la, pergi kerja tapi xde hasil. i mean, really thats what i thought. my job is to increase his reading performance, if he did not show a satisfactory result then what the heck have i been doing kan? so yeah i feel obligated not to use the money and only use it until i get him in shape again. but...he's not there anymore for this semester after school break ended. we are working with someone else now. well two other students actually in my case. so i have to be stricter now, telling them every so often 'i want you to do this' instead of 'which one of these that you want to do?' and is feeling quite uncomfortable but hey its effective jugak. so i guess its ok nak bagi them choices but you still have to let them know you wont take nonesnce. or something. haha
so yeah. no use la kan keeping the money snce he wont come back? i'll cash it in tomorrow and but myself junk food for assignment companion yeayyyyyyyyssss

teach
so this evening i went to the primary school for tutoring again, and ended up feeling very guilty towards Kaleb. he's my 8 year old student that i tutor btw. we even forgot our promise to take pictures =[
oh yeah. so Miss Craig wants him to understand what a paragraph is, and i know he really tried to understand it everytime he sees my frustrated expression each time he doesnt pay attention so he tried to make sense of whatever i was explaining but he would still ends up staring into spaces because he couldnt understand what a paragraph is. and i know the activity is hard, and boring for a fidgety 8 year old but i somehow is too rigid on following what Miss Craig has told us to do. Afiq suggested that i should do what he likes and would pay attention to instead of forcing him to do something he wouldn't want to do and is struggling to do. and i know he;s right. i am a bit mad of myself for forcing him to read, because reading is supposed to be a fun thing to do. i want him to feel interested in reading, not something you do because u see a desperate look on your teacher's face. aisyhhhhhh
i guess next time i wont be too rightous about what is expected from the curriculum spec, but to be more flexible. man, isn't teaching hard? but i do feel the kick now. hard, but its fun.
can't wait till next wednesday.
