the paperbag princess

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paper_Bag_Princess

So when it was 1st brought up in the lecture this morning, i thought 'oh, that is a name of an opshop down in K-road'. Then Amy told me that the shop was inspired by the story so i was like, ok cool (and then we both went there. i just realized that the shop was paperbag princess-ed themed)

the story is about a princess who was gonna get married to Prince Ronald, handsome, but narcissistic. so a dragon come along and scorch everything down and kidnapped the prince. Elizabeth the princess had nothing left so she wore a paperbag to cover herself because it is yucky to walk around doing some heroic work nude. so she searched high and low for the dragon's hideout, and found it. when she did, unlike what most conventional princes do to save princesses which always include violance and physical fights, she used her brain and tire out the dragon. so when the dragon slept, she rescued the prince but he was being a jerk. he told Elizabeth off and ask her to come rescue him again after she becomes more princess-like. and being such as jerk he is, she left him with the dragon.

so it has alternate ending. a guy doesn't always do the saving

and the interesting thing about this story is, while is being recognized by many feminist association out there, is hard to be accepted by kindergarteners. sebab? because kids are too exposed to the conventional endings where prince and princess lives happily ever after, the prince should be the one who does all the savings while the princesses are supposed to sit and be pretty while waiting for the prince to come and rescue them, with violence and loads of blood of course. couldn't blame them though. i started to find alternate endings to these stories when i was around 8. what more can 3-4 year old kiddies would think kan. haha

well maybe we should follow the examples from paperbag princess. jadi liberationist sikit. sokonglah Freire kawan2. he introduced the society to a noble notion after all kan? haha. stop thinking the way u always do. step out from the conventional, mundane, everyday thinkings. think more outrageously!

(i think i just had too much caffeine in my system, but i do mean what i say people)
