The Kpop trend

"You know Korean right? and you love Kpop right? Don't you think we should dress up like them or put on some fake lashes so we look Korean?"

(the song is Miss A's, Goodbye Baby. go to youtube and check the video out cuz they're pretty amazing dancers)

Well the answer is hell no. I have my own style and I don't want to wear fake lashes because I want to look Korean. I may be inspired by their fashion but that doesn't mean I want to be them. Oh well. Saya orang melayu la awak.

I do not mind people liking Kpop. I mean, I am bordering obsessed with Kpop. Guilty as charged, I listen to Korean songs and follow the chart more than I listen to Hitz.fm. I go to Daum.net to find new songs but I rarely go to check out Rick Dee's Charts. One of the ways I learned Korean was through songs, too since i barely watch Korean dramas. At least back then I didn't watch Korean dramas that frequently.

There are endless possible reasons why people are into Kpop. I don't know. I personally was attracted to the physical factors. We don't get that many cute boys looking like that in Malaysia. Well, probably there are some, I don't know. as i look deeper into it, I find myself liking the culture too. Some are similar to us Malaysian. What I like most is the way they seem to be okay to express how they feel to people. Yes, I love their expressiveness because it just knows no boundary. You can be expressive even if you are a guy! We have problems with boys opening up here. You could probably see the same problem with them too, but from my own experience they are a lot more caring and expressive than our country's male species. So yeah, those are my reasons out of hundreds more. Others will like them for their own reasons.

However some people makes it hard for me to admit that I am a kpop fan. =(

Pepatah melayu pun pernah berkata, dalam banyak2 pisan setandan xsemua cantik? Something macam tu. What it means is not everything is noice.

Ok excuse me for being blunt from this point on. I just don't know how to sugarcoat this. What I hate about this whole Kpop fascination is the wannabees. Its not the name of a  type of a newfound bees species. Its the people who try too hard to sound look or feel Korean.

why do you have to go and create 27/7 ke gula gula ke? why do you have to go around saying you can speak korean when all you know is useless words like 'omo', 'yah!' and 'ottoke'? why do you have to claim yourself as the hardcore and kpop loving person when all you know is Bonamana, Sorry Sorry and Nobody? Why do you have to be so embarrassingly cliched why????

everyone has the right to like something. but i don't need to listen and look at your obsession all the time. I like kpop. hell yeah i like Kpop, do i talk about them to my doctor? my teacher? the people who has no interest in knowing that you memorized the lyrics for Sorry Sorry? no.

I love it when more and more people love Kpop. We had various concerts and performance by Korean artists because of the support the gained from here. I am thankful that I can now listen to the korean songs in mainstream radios and tv channel. I also loved it when i see my favourite artists are getting so much love and attention (and money) from the people of my country. I like watching real Korean artists doing the real Kpop thing.

BUT! Does that mean we have to produce slutty looking girls who cant dance and sing and call them Malaysian Kpop artist? Does that mean reality shows should delude youngsters into thinking they are cool because they win a Kpop styled audition? Where is the originality people??? Half of the things shown on the Korean entertainment does not go well with our culture. Some things are not suitable to be followed. For example, it is downright embarrassing to see people try so hard to act cute (or aegyo) on Malaysian TV. You know, we Malaysians are not raised to be overly cute. We are the sweet ones. Watching people squeak like a choking baby duck on TV is definitely not cute. However, i could bear with it when my Korean friends do it because its their culture. Being cute when the time calls for it is THEIR thing. as much as i would not be angry when people greet me with salam, i would not be annoyed when Koreans greet me with 'annyeong haseyo'. I would be puking on your shoes, though, if you do. especially if you say it wrong.

We should learn from their entertainment industries. they were able to produce good performers not only because they dress nicely or they put on heavy makeup. Aspiring celebrities have to undergo training for years before they could debut. They were taught to sing, dance and entertain for years before they were allowed to go on the television to ensure top notch entertainment. So why is it us Malaysian thinks that just copying their looks will produce a high quality entertainment standards?

I sincerely respect people who would learn Korean. Learning a language helps with our cognitive ability and Korean is not an easy language to learn. Seeing people's efforts to really master the language makes me feel happy and inspired. but please dont go around telling people 'Oh yeah i can speak korean' when you don't even know how to say your name in full sentence in the language. Contohnya, i wouldnt say i can speak chinese because my chinese is limited to saying 'i am malaysian' and 'where is the hotel'. i certainly wouldn't say i know arabic because i don't. i can read arabic script but i don't know how to speak it. same goes to korean. just because you listen to it everyday, if you don't learn it you cannot speak it.

i hate it when people forget about the adaptability. there are certain things that you should learn from them. some requires serious consideration before any implementation is made. most important thing is not to copy everything blindly. don't give kpop lovers a bad name.

p/s: i am still horrified with Siwon's 5th album teaser photo.

hahaha ryeowook's is bearable. a lot more bearable than siwon's. look at how the crotch stands out from the rest of the body part? how do people under 13 buy the album without getting a good scolding from their parents?

but malaysians should prolly keep in mind that if you leg isn't hot, then hot pants is a no no. i like hyunah's legs.
